Ferrier Pumps were engaged to provide a design support and MEICA package to include supply, installation and commissioning of WS42, which will be adopted by Scottish Water as part of the Hawick Flood Prevention Scheme.

The scheme has been designed by Scottish Borders Council to reduce flood risk across Hawick. The scheme will protect against the effects of the 1 in 75 year flood event from the River Teviot.

Project Specifics

During periods of heavy rain, the river level rises, and the WwTW is hydraulically unable to discharge via the existing gravity outlet, causing
flooding of the works.

Within the Hawick WwTW a new storm tank was constructed housing 4 submersible pumps. A steel gantry spans over the storage tank with an electric hoist to lift pumps for operational and maintenance purposes. An actuated valve was installed to divert flows when storm conditions arise. Instrumentation was installed within the tank monitoring levels for a fully automated system and a new kiosk housing an IMCC.
